Christensen had 11 points for Gusties

Jenna Christensen, a 2009 graduate of Albert Lea High School, recently finished her sophomore season on the Gustavus-Adolphus College women’s hockey team.

Christensen played in 27 of 30 games for the Gusties and scored 11 points. She had eight goals and three assists and helped the Gusties place fourth in the NCAA Women’s Hockey Championship in Rochester, N.Y. Christensen scored two goals in the team’s 5-4 loss to Norwich University in the national semifinals.

Christensen also had four points (two goals and two assists) for the Gusties in a 4-1 win over University of Wisconsin-River Falls in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Christensen had a team-high 17.8 shooting percentage on 45 shots during the regular season.

Christensen spent much of her freshman year at GAC overcoming a knee injury she suffered during high school. After struggling with her skating last season, Gusties coach Mike Carroll said Christensen really came on as this season progressed.

“She learned last season as a freshman what’s expected of a college athlete,” Carroll said. “She came into her sophomore year healthy and with a totally different jump in her step.”

Carroll also said Christensen is one of the team’s most competitive athletes in practice and games, and she is not afraid to take risks.

“She’s great in small spaces,” he said. “And she scored some big goals for us this year.”
