Helene Nelson, 91, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Helene Marian Nelson, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Calvary Baptist Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Robert Weniger will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Helene died Friday, April 15, 2011, at the Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 91 years of age.

Helene was born April 17, 1919, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Carl and Martine Olsen. She was a graduate of Albert Lea High School. On April 6, 1940 she was united in marriage to Victor Nelson at the Calvary Baptist Church in Albert Lea.

Helene lived in Spencer, S.D., Owatonna and Albert Lea and had been a member of the Calvary Baptist Church for many years. She had been employed for a short time at Jostens in Owatonna and at the Owatonna Green House.

Helene loved sewing, knitting, bead work and ceramics. She enjoyed camping, going up North and traveling to Texas and Washington to spend time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed making jewelry and spending time with her friends. The love of her life was her husband Victor, her children and grandchildren.

Helene is survived by her children; Richard (Kathy) Nelson of Port Townsend, Wash., and their children and grandchildren; Kimberley (Pat) Maher, Max, Luke and Hailey and Kelly (Tony) Liske, Abbie and Emily; Lynette (Bruce) Emerson of Albert Lea and their children and grandchildren: Traci Emerson, Amy Lambertson, Jayden and Shailee. One brother and sister survive: Norman Olsen, Maryetta Hylle; and special friends: Arvella and Louis Henderson.

The family extends special thanks to Pat Friedland and the staff at Knutson Place.

Helene was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Martine; husband, Victor; brothers: Elmer, Carlyle and Red; sisters: Eve, Dorothy, Edna, Shirley and Inez.
