The city of Albert Lea was notified last week that it would be receiving $1.72 million in grant funding that will go toward the Myers Road project.
The total cost of the project is $3.57 million.
Myers Road is located in the Jobs Industrial Park on the south edge of Albert Lea. It runs from 14th Street one-third of a mile and east one-third of a mile to U. S. Highway 65. This roadway has been deteriorating for quite a few years and was experiencing flooding.
The project will consist of:
• Complete removal and replacement of the existing concrete pavement, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and water main
• Installation of a new under drain system
• Construction of new concrete aprons at driveways
• Installation of pavement markings
• Restoration of existing bituminous pavement at tie-in locations on side streets
• Construction of a storm sewer system including a storm water pond including associated piping
• Restoration of existing lawn areas by seeding and/or sodding
• Installation of sidewalk on the south end and west side of the roadway.
The project will come before the Albert Lea City Council on May 23 for approval with a bid opening in late June. Construction will begin in July.
The project may extend into the spring of 2012 depending on the length of the construction season.
