Lens & Shutter Club

The Lens & Shutter Photography Club held its March 17 meeting at Rofshus Precision Machine. There were 16 members in attendance.

April’s contest category was Scenic. Judges were Ryon McCamish and Dustin Petersen. Guest judge was Bonita Moeller.

Members receiving competition awards were:

Darcy Sime, first place for “The Mountains of Zion.”

Carol Haroldson, second place for “Ballooning Over The Nile.”

Rachelle Fliehman, third place for “Scenic Harbor.”

Honorable mentions were awarded to Bernadine Peterson, Ryon McCamish and Carol Bertelson.

Merit awards were awarded to Jean Aamodt, Rachelle Fliehman, Darcy Sime, Terri Simonson, John Eisterhold, Mitch Pederson and Dave Sime. Cheryl Herold won two merit awards.

A selection of April’s competition entries, including winning pictures will be displayed in the lobby of the Farmers State Bank, 1452 W. Main St., Albert Lea, this month. Each month there is a new display of club pictures at the bank.

Members receiving N4C Print awards for the Black and White Category were Darcy Sime, second place for “Blizzard Warning,” and Dustin Petersen, merit award for “Across the Bridge.” Results were not yet available for April N4C prints.

Members receiving N4C Digital awards were Darcy Sime, honorable mention for “Yellowstone Fox,” and Jim Wendel, merit award for “Black Crowned Night Heron.”

The program was an informative talk on photojournalism by Albert Lea Tribune Managing Editor Tim Engstrom.

Competition categories were chosen for the 2011-12 club year as follows: May 2011: Open, September 2011: Motion/Movement, October 2011: Looking Through/Framed, November 2011: Stairs and Steps, December 2011: Candy, January 2012: Backlighting, February 2012: Linear Photography, March 2012: Photojournalism, and April 2012: Freeborn County Barns.

The next meeting will be the end-of-year picnic at 6 p.m. May 19 at Pioneer Park. Competition category will be Open. End of year awards will be presented.
