Memorial Day weekend is packed with plans

All are welcome at a fundraiser for Hayward Lutheran Church’s cemetery. A short program will be held at 1 p.m. at the social hall at Hayward Lutheran Church, and a lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the social hall.
The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, salad, baked beans, pickles, juice and coffee. Donations will be accepted to help with the upkeep of the cemetery.
Friday
• See the “East Meets West I-90 Art Connection” show at the Albert Lea Art Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• The Albert Lea American Legion will host a burger basket meal and bake sale from 5 to 9 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Freeborn County Relay for Life in memory of Steven Kirsch, who passed away in December from cancer. There will be a silent auction and variety of baked goods available. Burger baskets are $8, which includes fries and a non-alcoholic drink.
• The exhibit by three area photographers will continue at the new Art Underground gallery in downtown Albert Lea. Work by Teresa Kauffmann, Julie Bronson and BethAnn Hamilton will be on display from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. The Art Underground is located at 224 S. Broadway in Albert Lea in the historic Bessessen Building.
Saturday
• The Albert Lea Farmers Market starts at 9 a.m. and goes until noon in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot.

• The Sample Saturday Series will feature free tennis at the Albert Lea High School tennis courts starting at 10 a.m.
• A fundraiser lunch for Hayward Cemetery will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the social hall at Hayward Lutheran Church. • A tennis clinic will be held for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders at the Albert Lea High School tennis courts from noon to 1:15 p.m.

• A fundraiser for the Albert Lea Post No. 447 of the VFW will be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion. Menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, juice and milk. Cost is $6.
