Outstanding Senior Citizen sought

Nominations for county residents are being sought for the 2011 Outstanding Senior Citizen of Freeborn County. This program is sponsored by the Freeborn County Agricultural Society and the Minnesota Board on Aging.

Both a man and a woman who are 70 years of age by June 1, 2011, will be selected because of their outstanding community involvement. They will be honored at the Freeborn County Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011. Nominees must be a resident of Freeborn County and judging will be based on all contributions made to their community after the age of 65. This is the 22nd year that Freeborn County has participated. Winner of the last six years are:

• 2005 – Charlene Becker and Otto Becker, Albert Lea

• 2006 – Roberta Ernston, Clarks Grove and Louis Henderson, Albert Lea

• 2007 – Evelyth Tiede and Roger Lonning, Albert Lea

• 2008 – Jean Pestorious and Bruce Owen, Albert Lea

• 2009 – Marion Drescher and Paul Scrabeck, Alden

• 2010 – Dorothy Simonsen and Richard Polley, Albert Lea

People wishing to make nominations can obtain official nomination forms from Senior Resources of Freeborn County, Skyline Plaza, 1659 1/2 W. Main St., and at the Freeborn County Fair office located on the fairgrounds. Forms can also be obtained from Chairman Roger Lonning by calling 391-0345.

Nomination forms must be submitted to the Freeborn County Fair Office, Attn: OSC, Box 128, Albert Lea, MN 56007. The deadline for Outstanding Senior Citizen of Freeborn County nomination(s) is June 24, 2011.
