Funeral services for Roger Daniel Boe, 93, of Albert Lea, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Interment will be at the Lakewood Cemetery. Roger died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Albert Lea Medical Center.
Roger Daniel Boe was born on May 18, 1917, to Andrew I. and Marie (Smeby) Boe at Albert Lea. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. He attended school in the Albert Lea school system. He lived his entire life in Freeborn County. Roger was united in marriage to Verona Schmidt on Nov. 22, 1945, at First Lutheran Church. He had worked for the Haddy Co., Kroger Co., and later was employed at Wilson & Co. until his retirement in 1980. Roger loved the outdoors, old time music, playing his accordion and antique machinery. He was an avid fisherman. He was an usher at First Lutheran Church for 50 years and had served on the Board of Lakewood Cemetery Association for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, Verona; sisters-in-law: Irma Steele and Harriet Butenhoff; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Arnold (Stella), Albert, Howard and Harry; sisters: Millie, Valda (Rufus) Osmonson and Lilah (Dr. Erling Hestenes); brothers and sisters-in-law: Elmer Butenhoff, Melvin Steele, Leon and Linda Toenges.
