Semi driver cited for passing school bus

NORTHWOOD, Iowa — A semi driver was cited for passing a school bus Thursday morning that was pulled over at a driveway to pick up children for school.
According to the Worth County Sheriff’s Office, the bus was pulled off to the side of the road on U.S. Highway 65 south of Northwood, Iowa, at about 8 a.m. Thursday, when the semi passed the bus. It is unclear whether the semi was driving the same direction as the bus or if it was approaching from an opposite direction.
The bus had its lights flashing and stop arm extended.
The bus driver and a parent reported the incident to authorities.
The driver was Thomas Burkhart, of Tennessee who works for the Swinford Trucking Co. of Illinois.
