50 years ago – 1961
Leon Walcholz threw a one-hitter for the Kiester High School baseball team in their 6-0 victory over Emmons. Kiester improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Border League.
The Albert Lea High School baseball team defeated Faribault 17-3. Dennis Tostenson pitched a complete game, and Dick Anderson had three hits including a three-run home run for the tigers.
The Albert Lea High School golf team defeated Waseca 160-173. Scorers for the Tigers were medalist Dick Davis (39), Bob Kline and Roger Peterson (40) and Dick Jones (41).
Glen Jensen hurled a no-hitter and hit a grand slam home run as Glenville defeated LeRoy 17-1. Glenville’s Southland Conference record was 3-0.
25 years ago – 1986
Inducted into the Freeborn County Fast-Pitch Softball Hall of Fame were Warren Torgerson, Tom Jacobson, Carl Hanson, Jim Beach, LeRoy Maas, Roger Rickheim and John Bothof.
The Glenville softball team improved to 10-0 overall and 6-0 in the Gopher Conference with a 2-0 victory over Ellendale-Geneva/New Richland-Hartland. Lynette Vanek was the winning pitcher and loser Krista Paulsen threw a two-hitter.
The Alden-Conger softball team moved to 6-0 in the Border League with a 15-2 win over Ceylon. Tana Dokken pitched the win, Vicki Thomas had four RBIs, and Anita Skov stole five bases for A-C.
10 years ago – 2001
Isaac Walton pitched a complete game six-hitter for the ALHS baseball team in their 4-3 victory over Mankato East.
Glenville-Emmons defeated Lanesboro 160-177 in boys’ golf. Kris Knutson was medalist with 35, Adam Bremer had 38, Fernando (40) and Matt Webb (47) for G-E.
New coaches were named for the 2001-02 school year at ALHS. ootball: Jeff Marty who was defensive coordinator at Pelican Rapids High School. Boys’ basketball: Matt Addington, a 1996 graduate of Rochester John Marshall High School. Volleyball: Gina Eppen who was head volleyball coach at Southland for one year.
