Tribune headline was inaccurate

Your banner headline Tuesday, “Legislature fails to create budget,” is false and misleading, but of course, it does reflect the left-leaning editorial stance of the paper. The fact is the Legislature did pass a budget and sent it to the governor. Stick to the facts in your headlines. Save your opinion for the editorial page.
Isn’t it more accurate to write, “Legislature sends budget bill to governor’? The subhead could say, “Governor to veto and call special session.”
The little-publicized fact is that the Republican budget calls for an increase in spending over the levels of the current biennium. How much money is enough? We must get control of spending and the ever-increasing role of government in our lives.

Editor’s note: Thank you for the feedback. You are correct that the headline could have been more precise. “Lawmakers lack a budget deal” would have better. No bias was intended, as the governor indeed is part of the legislative process; however, as you correctly reminded us, he is not part of the Legislature.
