You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Volunteer Driver: Ride Services of Freeborn County needs additional drivers- especially Thursday and Friday for two to three hours each week. Drivers are reimbursed for mileage and receive AARP safety trainings free. The safety trainings qualify a driver for a 10 percent reduction on car insurance premiums. Call Marilyn at Senior Resources, 377-7433, for additional information and to volunteer.

Respite Caregivers: Men and women can lend a helping hand for an hour or two providing respite for full-time caregivers who need time for their own appointments, grocery and personal errands. Nancy at Senior Resources 377-7433 provides the connections for you to relieve the caregiver as they strive to maintain their energies.

Chore Services: Volunteers are needed to help seniors do outside work like tilling gardens, raking lawns or washing the outsides of windows. These are one-time tasks which would be good for a family or small group to do together to make a volunteer event. To get connected for one of these projects, please ask for Marilyn at 377-7433, Senior Resources — Chore Services.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
