To the Humane Society’s groundbreaking.

After about a year of waiting to see if they’d be able to build an expansion, the Humane Society and area officials finally broke ground Wednesday. Construction will begin in a few weeks to provide some much needed space for the animals and volunteers alike. The organization still needs around $17,000 and will hold a Buckets on Broadway fundraiser on July 15 to work toward raising the rest of the funds for the shelter.

To the Knights baseball tournament.

A total of 29 youth baseball teams came to Albert Lea to compete in the fifth annual Knights Invitational recently. We think it’s awesome that parents and volunteers organize this tournament for our area kids and kids throughout Minnesota and Iowa. Family and friends came to cheer the kids on, and it’s always nice to see their support.

To hosting the Red Power Roundup.

What a busy week in Freeborn County! Hosting a national event sure brought a lot of people into the area, and we love helping people explore all of our little communities. Also, area businesses were well-prepared for all the extra people in town by having more staff on hand and by being accommodating to guests. Also, a thumbs up to the Minnesota Chapter 15 of the International Harvester Collectors Club for vying to host the national event. What a great way to get people visiting our communities.

To the Corey Goodnature golf tournament.

The sixth annual Corey Goodnature Memorial Golf Classic was held Saturday at Green Lea Golf Course and Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. The event has been so successful it’s been played on two courses over the past two years. What a great testament to the memory of a hero.
