Kevin Forrest Dammen, 20, of Austin, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, in the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior.
Kevin was born Oct. 5, 1990, in Austin to Mike Dammen and Dana (Bishop). He graduated from Austin High School in 2009 and was a student at Winona State University. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, co-founder of the Winona State University Ski Club, member of the Winona State University Cross Country team, and co-founder of the J.C. Hormel Nature Center Ski Race. Kevin enjoyed running, skiing, unicycling, storm chasing, kayaking, slack lining, online electronic repair, hiking, camping and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his parents, Dana and Mike Steichen of Austin, Mike Dammen of Hollandale; twin brother, Kyle Dammen of Austin; sister, Michelle Dammen of Austin; brother, Carter Steichen of Austin; grandparents, Dean and Agnes Bishop of Austin, Anton Dammen of Austin, Roman and Margaret Steichen of Austin; love of his life, Michelle Johannsen of Austin.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Joan Dammen.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Saturday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour before the service at the church on Sunday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The casket bearers will be Kyle Dammen, Michelle Dammen, Carter Steichen, Michelle Johannsen, Ben Bachmeier, Tim Erickson, Chris Folken, Travis Hawley.
Memorials are preferred to the J.C. Hormel Nature Center or St. Augustine Catholic Church.
