Students in Albert Lea celebrated books and different cultures.

The week of May 2, Halverson and Lakeview elementary schools in Albert Lea celebrated Children’s Day/Book Day, which is a community-based, family literacy initiative celebrated across the country. It was founded in 1996 by author Pat Mora. Its goal is to link all children to books, languages and cultures. Students at Halverson and Lakeview decorated bookmarks to pass out in the libraries for the celebration. Staff members Angela Kroeger and Cammie Tennis helped several students create quilts to put on display in the libraries. Lakeview had a book giveaway on May 2. Halverson had a book giveaway at their Fun Night. Students were able to choose a book to take home thanks to donations from staff members, parents and students.
