Chamber wants to help people find employment

With the state government shutdown under way, the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce is looking for a way to help community members who are looking to find jobs, along with businesses who are looking to advertise openings.
Because of the shutdown, the websites for the Southeastern Minnesota Workforce Development Inc. and Minnesota’s Job Bank are also both shut down.
To fill this void during the shutdown, the chamber is proposing a job posting link on its website.
According to an email sent out to chamber members on Thursday, companies can send the chamber information about their open positions, including job requirements and application instructions. Companies can also send links to online applications and phone numbers.
Prospective employees will be able to view the openings on the chamber website.
The site will be updated once a week as instructed by the businesses.
Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Randy Kehr said his office has received some positive response to the idea. He also plans to discuss openings during his weekly radio show.
The chamber would like to have the link up on its website by Tuesday.
Businesses who are interested in participating should send their available positions to alfccoc@albertlea.org or call the chamber at 373-3938 for more information.
