Freemond Madson Auxiliary

The Freemond Madson Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 447 met Aug. 8 at the American Legion Hall with President Eunice Hatleli presiding.
The general orders from Minnesota VFW Auxiliary president were read. Also the chairmen’s directives for the 2012 year were read.
The group received awards at the state convention as follows: Citation and $5 for 100 percent supporting community service; citation for rating second place in the whole state for community service reports; honorable mention for outstanding hospitality program and citations for our Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen program.
The new Voice of Democracy theme this fall is “Is there pride in serving in the military?” and the Patriot Pen theme is “Are you proud of your country?” Marilyn Danielson is the chairwoman for these and can be contacted at 373-0518.
The charter was draped in memory of sister, Marian Hanson.
A donation of $100 was given to the Albert Lea Yellow Ribbon group to aid veterans and families.
A free membership luncheon for 2012 paid up and life members will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 14. Any guests will be $5. Bring along some potential members to become acquainted with the group’s work.
The group should have cancer pins for sale that day. Also instead of a bakeless bake sale they would like at least a $5 donation from each member to defray expenses of the required donations to the VA hospitals, etc. You may pay dues at the luncheon or send $15 to the treasurer Bevrly Boone, 904 James Ave., Albert Lea, MN 56007. Your donation may be on the same check.
The VFW fall conference will be in St. Cloud on Sept. 16 through 18. Sept. 16 is POW-MIA recognition day.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at the American Hall.
