More than 1,200 Alliant Energy customers in western Albert Lea were without power Tuesday morning as storms moved through the area.

Alliant Energy spokesman Justin Foss said power went out for 1,250 customers at about 7 a.m.

It was restored between 8:30 and 9 a.m.

Foss said the storms were packed with lightning, and the outage was caused by a lightning strike to a power line in the backyard of a home.

“It’s just another good reminder — these summer storms — that if you ever see a downed power line, stay away from it and call Alliant Energy right away,” he said.
