No matter your view on the standoff of Sunday evening on Pillsbury Avenue, you have to admire the Albert Lea Police Department and Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office for their patient handling of the situation. No one on the forces acted like this was some movie — which incredibly does happen in some places where officers are too quick to bring about a resolution, which can result in violent outcomes. Instead, they patiently and calmly negotiated with the person. After two hours, he came out with his hands up and sprawled on the ground. The officers subdued him but without being downright mean, rough and aggressive — which also happens in some places. Our law enforcement showed Sunday that it takes the high road and keeps a level head in tense situations. That’s a sign of quality.
