Late summer Minn. DWI crackdown nets 1,787 arrests

ST. PAUL — Minnesota law agencies are reporting nearly 1,800 DWI arrests during an end-of-summer crackdown.

The state Office of Traffic Safety says 1,787 motorists were arrested for drunken driving during the 18-day statewide crackdown, according to preliminary figures.

A total of 295 law enforcement agencies took part in the stepped-up DWI enforcement. It ran from Aug. 19 through Labor Day, Sept. 5.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports 326 DWI arrests during the effort. In the Twin Cities, the St. Paul Police Department reportes 97 arrests, followed by Roseville police with 34 and Bloomington police with 32.

In Greater Minnesota, Rochester police made 38 arrests, followed by Duluth police and the Beltrami County sheriff’s office with 22 each.

One in seven drivers in Minnesota has a DWI on record.
