Editorial: Kudos to the Waldorf Warriors

Congratulations to Waldorf College of Forest City, Iowa, on winning the first two games in the existence of its hockey program. It’s quite a feat to field an athletic team, let alone win the first two games.
The Waldorf Warrios beat the Dordt Defenders on Friday and on Saturday with scores of 6-3 and 5-4 at the Albert Lea City Arena.
Sure, it’s club hockey, not varsity, but the competition is fierce, and, to the surprise of the sportswriter who covered the game for the Tribune, the crowds are super loud. The college students really get into the action.
“That’s about the second loudest I’ve ever seen that place,” said Mike Simmons.
He compared the crowd to the kind that show up when the Albert Lea Tigers are in sectionals.
This is good for hockey in Albert Lea, good for the City Arena and good for Waldorf College. Let’s hope this arrangement stays in place for many years.
We’ll take Waldorf Warriors over the Albert Lea Thunder any day of the week. It’s just more fun.
