Whether you live in a house, an apartment or on a farm, it sure is nice to have a good neighbor. Torres showed his neighborliness Wednesday by noticing the smell of smoke and quickly went to the apartment below his to see if anyone was home, then called 911. A burner on the stove had been left on unintentionally.
Imagine if Torres hadn’t acted swiftly. He and everyone in the apartment building at 930 S. Broadway Ave. would have been without their homes.
To people who decorate their homes for Halloween.
Children sure love to see homes decorated for Halloween, like the one on Clark Street. and the one on Vine Avenue. Kids love to go trick-or-treating on Halloween, and making your house spooky and scary let’s them and parents know you are in the spirit of the holiday. The community appreciates your efforts.
It’s pretty roundly known that the world is getting warmer, regardless of whether humans are causing it or not. Some Minnesotans might think it is good news and will make the weather here nicer. Not necessarily so, say some climatologists. They say global warming is likely to make better conditions for snow in Minnesota. Cold doesn’t cause snow. More water vapor does. Warmer winter air means more water vapor, which means more snow. “The natural north-south divide in snowfall is becoming even more pronounced,” Bob Henson, the author of “The Rough Guide to Climate Change, told the Star-Tribune last week. “Because it’s so cold in the middle of winter, there’s a lot of room for warming up and still having a lot of snow.”
Get out your shovels.
