Funeral services for Ethel M. Bakken, 91, of Albert Lea, formerly of Alden will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Alden. Burial will be at Carlston Cemetery. Ethel died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Ethel Marie Bakken was born on March 5, 1920, in Freeborn County the daughter of Niels and Katrina (Jensen) Pedersen. She attended District 16 and graduated from Freeborn High School. Ethel was united in marriage to Manly Bakken on Sept. 19, 1942, in Albert Lea. Sewing, quilting, painting, gardening, baking and playing Scrabble and working crossword puzzles were some of Ethel’s interests. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Busy Fingers sewing group at the church and the Carlston Homemakers Club.

Survivors include her husband, Manly; daughters: Rebecca (Larry) Bluhm, Rosanne (Allan) Brandau and Peggy Bakken (Bruce Treichler); son, Mark (Linda) Bakken; grandchildren: Michael (Wendy) Bluhm, Kevin (Ann) Bluhm, Kristine (Joel) Hagglund, Jeffrey (Michelle) Bluhm, Julie (Jeff) Timmerman, Diane Bluhm, Donna (Douglas) Caywood, Richard (CeCe) Bluhm, Greg (Amy) Bluhm, Sheila (Peter) Hearn, Paul Treichler and Matthew Treichler; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Pedersen, Lorraine Bakken and Lillian Perkins; many nieces and nephews

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and John Bluhm; three sisters and five brothers.
