Poster Contest winner announced

Fifth graders in District 241 participated in this year’s Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest. The Albert Lea Fire Department sponsors the contest each year to heighten awareness of important fire safety issues. This year’s poster theme was “Protect Your Family From Fire.”
Melissa Palma, from Halverson Elementary School, won first place this year. Her poster is now entered into the state fire marshal’s contest. Second place went to Jayna Finseth, Lakeview Elementary School, and third place was awarded to Nic Cantu, Halverson School. Honorable mentions were Chloe Weider, Halverson, Stephany Arteaga, Halverson, Courtney Classen, Lakeview, Jack Edwin, Lakeview, Martin Kim, Lakeview, Anthony Senholtz, Hawthorne, Elijah Schroeder, Hawthorne, and Elliott Flatten, Hawthorne.
The first place winner received $50, an Albert Lea Fire Department sweatshirt, a watch, a Hy-Vee Pizza party which includes three Tombstone pizzas and a case of pop, a trophy and a blue ribbon.
The second place winner received $25, an Albert Lea Fire Department sweatshirt, a $10 McDonald’s gift card, a Hy-Vee pizza party which includes two Tombstone pizzas and a 12 pack pop and a red ribbon.
The third place received $10, a $5 McDonald’s gift card, a case of Hy-Vee pop and a yellow ribbon.
Honorable mentions received a green ribbon and a McDonald’s T-shirt.
