Violet A. Todd, 97, of Oakland, died on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.
Violet was born on Jan. 17, 1914, in Oakland Township, to George and Birdie (Running) Esterby. Violet married Leo Cummins on June 22, 1932, in Mason City, Iowa. Leo died in 1942. On April 3, 1948, Violet married Ralph Todd in San Antonio, Texas.
Violet was a lifetime member of Oakland Lutheran Church. She was a member of WELCA and Royal Neighbors of America. Violet and Ralph owned and operated Todd Grocery in Oakland for 20 years and they also cared for the Fairview Cemetery for over 30 years.
Violet loved to cook and feed people. In her spare time, she liked to golf and bowl and also enjoyed crocheting and made a lot of baby sweaters for missions through the church. Violet loved taking trips with Ralph to Texas to visit relatives.
Violet was preceded in death by her first husband, Leo Cummins, in 1942; second husband, Ralph Todd, in 1996; son-in-law, Jerry Schewe; and daughter-in-law, Kaye Todd.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Deloris Schewe, Oakland; son, Robert Todd (Kat Howard), Oakland; grandchildren: Julie (Keven) Maxa, Oakland, Gary Schewe (Laurie Read), Oakland, Brian Schewe, Shakopee, Chaz (Katrina) Schwatka, San Diego, Calif.; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakland Lutheran Church with the the Rev. Bob Berthold officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Oakland. Visitation will be held at Oakland Lutheran Church on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Oakland Lutheran Church.
