In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Wells Area Save 2nd Base Committee announces a $12,000 donation to Naeve Health Care Foundation’s “Project Pink,” from funds raised at their fourth fundraising event for breast cancer care. Another of the group’s goals is to raise awareness of breast cancer.

“Project Pink” is a NHCF and Mayo Clinic Health System fundraising campaign for breast cancer equipment. This year, funds will be used for the purchase of a self contained cabinet X-ray system to read breast biopsies. The new equipment complement will enhance the special digital mammography equipment purchased with “Project Pink” donations in 2010.

This year’s Save 2nd Base event included motorcycle, ATV and car rides, silent auction, live auction and ended with a DJ at the Wells VFW. The Wells Jaycees sponsored a 2K and 5/K walk/run as part of the day’s activities. Next year’s fund-raiser will take place on June 16, 2012.

“If it wasn’t for my husband, Donnie, family and all our friends, the volunteers and everyone else, the fundraiser would not have been such a success,” says Pam Klocek, breast cancer survivor and committee member.
