Who left Gussy to suffer on the road?

To the person who hit and ran my son and granddaughter’s black Lab on Friday evening on Margaretha Avenue: I know Gus should not have been on the road. She was after a rabbit is my understanding. What you did is still wrong. What hurts the worst is that you hit her with your car and did not stop to see if she was OK, nor did you even try to let her owner and children know.
I want you to know you shattered her right hind leg and broke her front leg. Gus was determined and tried to drag herself home, only making it to the neighbor’s yard. My son took her to the Albert Lea Veterinary Clinic. Doc Daniel Smith was kind enough to meet him well after hours, a great vet.
The news was heartbreaking to say the least, so my son brought Gussy home so the girls could say “goodbye” to their loyal companion and many times best friend.
Gussy had to be put to sleep on Saturday as her injuries were catastrophic. My granddaughters are still crying, a loss so hard to understand. I just want to know why you did not have it in your heart to stop and take the time to explain it was an accident and you were sorry!
This is so heartbreaking and this family is dealing with a huge loss. Gus was there for these girls, to the bus stop and waiting ever so patiently for them to come home from school. Gussy loved the girls unconditionally and my son. She lived for the kids, car rides, laying in the yard and a good hunt. You have left many holes in many hearts.
I hope you can sleep at night knowing this. A simple stop to check to see what you hit, then a knock on the door just to explain would have helped my granddaughters understand that it was an accident. Now they just have a loss and no understanding how someone could hit an animal, a pet at that and just leave her to suffer.
I pray you have no children or pets because it is clear you have no conscience or morals. Karma is a bad thing to have in your shadow, and may I say, it is looking you in the eyes.
