Funeral services for Wilbur George Schneider, 87, of Albert Lea, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. James Kassera and Rev. Wayne Halvorsen will officiate. Wilbur died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at Mayo Clinic Health System Albert Lea, surrounded by his loving family.
Wilbur George Schneider was born on Oct. 10, 1924, in Wycoff, to George and Gerta (Affeldt) Schneider. He grew up in the Wycoff area and graduated from Wycoff High School in 1942. Wilbur farmed with his parents for a short time. On Oct. 10, 1945, Wilbur married Dorothy Hanson in Rochester. Wilbur worked for Nelson Fur Farm for 25 years. He then went to work for the Albert Lea District 241 as a custodian and boiler operator for 17 years, retiring in his early 60s. Wilbur was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, taking care of his yard and exercising their dog Wiley with his riding lawn mower, and visiting with friends and holiday gatherings with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Dorothy; his special companion, his dog Wiley; children: Wanda (Gary) Mitsch of Rogers, Ronald Schneider of Virginia, Dennis Schneider of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Janet (Greg) Ackland of Manchester and Dawn Schneider and special friend, Jerri Baas of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Melissa Mitsch of California, Brian Schneider of Virginia, Greg Schneider of Virginia, Aaron (Laura) Ackland of Geneva, David Ackland of Austin, Desirae Farr and Landon Farr both of Geneva, Taran Schneider and Molly Schneider both of Rochester; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Julie; son Dean; and two sisters.
