NORTHWOOD, Iowa — The Northwood man charged with the fatal hit-and-run of a young girl boarding a school bus in May has motioned to have his trial moved outside of Worth County.
Aaron Dwayne Gunderson, 32, filed the change of venue motion on Friday through his public defender, according to online court records.
Gunderson faces two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident resulting in death.
He was released from the Worth County Jail in October on bond awaiting his jury trial. On Oct. 21 he waived his Sixth Amendment right to a speedy trial.
According to court documents, Gunderson was reportedly driving more than 60 mph on May 10 when he collided with Kadyn Halverson, 7, of rural Kensett, who was walking to board a school bus.
The collision took place at 4336 Raven Ave. The school bus Kadyn was going to board was completely stopped and had its flashing red lights and stop arm activated.
Kadyn died at the scene.
The case is being prosecuted by the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.
