ST. PAUL — Republican Allen Quist reportedly is planning another run for the U.S. House in southern Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District.
Quist sent a letter to GOP activists saying that he will become a candidate and that he plans to announce his intentions on Thursday.
Quist’s wife, Julie Quist, said in an email to The Associated Press that her husband won’t be doing any interviews before his announcement, scheduled for 8 a.m. in Winona.
Quist, a former state representative and gubernatorial candidate, lost the Republican congressional endorsement in 2010 to Randy Demmer.
Another Republican, state Sen. Mike Parry of Waseca, is also running. The eventual GOP nominee is expected to square off against DFL Rep. Tim Walz, who was first elected in 2006.
Parry kicked off his campaign for the Republican endorsement in early November.
Five candidates ran campaigns for the party endorsement in 2010 with four aggressively seeking the support of delegates at the endorsing convention in Mankato in April of 2010.
