ST. PAUL — After months of on-again, off-again talks at the state Capitol, the Minnesota Vikings’ push for state money to help build a new football stadium is finally getting its first legislative hearing.

The Senate committees on Taxes and Local Government are holding a joint hearing this morning at the Capitol. The focus is possible locations for the stadium, including the team’s preferred site in suburban Ramsey County and several potential locations in downtown Minneapolis.

Officials from both Ramsey County and the city of Minneapolis are scheduled to testify, as well as team representatives. The hearing agenda also includes time for testimony from the public.

It’s the first of two Senate committee hearings scheduled on the stadium. Next week, the Senate Taxes and State Government committees plan to discuss stadium financing options.

On the Taxes Committee is District 24 Sen. Julie Rosen, R-Fairmont. Her district includes Faribault County.
