Hawthorne hosts 2nd family night of the year

On Dec. 8, more than 30 of the Hawthorne kindergarten families attended the second family night of the year. The theme for our family night was All Star Sports night. Families were invited to the kindergarten classrooms for a meal followed by making educational learning games, which they were able to take home.
The games consisted of: a matching uppercase and lowercase letter file folder game (working on sounds, beginning sounds and ending sounds), a number identification ZAP game, and reading nonfiction books about shapes. All of the nonfiction books were received from a grant through Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation and each kindergarten student that attended was able to choose a book to take home.
Special thanks to everyone who was able to make it to this fun kindergarten family night. The next family night will take place in February. Students and families will be talking about current reading and math gold standards that are being taught and about ways parents can work with children at home to reinforce the skills they are working on at school.
