Helping a child in need of glasses

About a week ago I got a call from a staff member at the Austin High School. She became aware of a student who was in need of glasses.

The student’s family had gone in for an eye exam and ordered glasses with the impression that their insurance would help cover the cost. When they arrived to pick up the glasses, they were told that the insurance would not be picking up any of the cost of the glasses or the exam and they owed over $200.

The family did not have the 50 percent down to be able to take the glasses so they were left at the store until they could. The family wasn’t sure what to do. Their child needed the glasses to learn, but they did not have the money to pay for them.

I immediately called Greg Larson because I knew he was a Lions member. Greg got back to me right away and the morning and noon Lions Clubs sponsored this child and paid for the glasses and the exam.

Our community is so blessed to have so many wonderful people. The members of our local Lions Clubs are a true example of how a community cares for one another.

A big thank you to all Lions who didn’t just buy glasses for a child but enabled that child to learn and grow.
