Alden hosts a tour of homes Saturday

Tour five homes that are part of a Christmas Tour of Homes, as a fundraiser for Alden’s Morin Lake Days. The tour starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and concludes at 3 p.m. The five homes on the tour are:

• Greg and Carolyn Smith’s at 62231 County Road 46

• Ron and Denise Redman’s at 66852 County Road 46

• Bob and Donna Nelsen’s at 21288 680th Ave.

• Kandee Petersen’s 69795 220th St.

• Janelle VanEngelenburg and Troy Prescher’s at 145 First Ave.

Tickets are $10 and are available at American Bank, Alden’s city offices, Accent’s and Hometown Snacks & Sweets in Alden. A soup luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alden City Hall sponsored by Hometown Snacks & Sweets.

 

Friday

• Join Worth Brewing Co. in Northwood, Iowa, as its 1,000th brew is tapped at 5 p.m. Also, Northwood’s Christmas Light Parade will begin at 6 p.m.

• ACT presents “A Dickens Christmas Carol” at 7 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

• See the 18th annual drive-through live nativity scene at New Life Christian Church off Main Street near Napa Auto Parts from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome.

 

Saturday

• Hayward Lutheran Church will hold its annual bake sale from 8 to 11 a.m. at the church in Hayward. Fresh-baked rolls, lefse, coffee and juice will also be served. A drawing will be held at 11 a.m. for the raffle items and two quilts.

• The Albert Lea Farmers Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Northbridge Mall inside the Old Schweser’s store location.

• Take a drive out in the country to join Oakland Lutheran Church’s annual soup and pie dinner and bake and craft sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch is $6 for adults, $4 for children age 6 to 12, and free for those under age 6.

• Alden Morin Lake Days presents a Christmas tour of homes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Visit the Holiday Shopping Boutique at United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There’s free admission and more than 20 vendors and craft-makers. There will be a silent auction, soup and salad lunch and more.

• Join Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland for its Christmas bazaar from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. Enjoy a lunch of sloppy joes, chips, dessert, pop and coffee and shop for homemade baked goods, crafts and candy.

• The Alden Lions Club will host a Christmas dinner theater presentation in the Alden-Conger School gymnasium at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and $8 for children age 12 and under.

Sunday

• ACT presents “A Dickens Christmas Carol” at 2 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

• United Methodist Church will host the annual carol dinner from noon to 3 p.m. Enjoy a catered dinner by Conger Catering in the decorated fellowship hall while listening to Christmas carols.

• Visit Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea’s “Set Memories Aglow” tree-lighting ceremony at 5 p.m.

• The Freeborn County Historical Museum will host a Christmas gathering from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the museum on Bridge Avenue in Albert Lea. Admission is $1.

• “The Story That Never Grows Old” concert will begin at 7 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. The Southeastern Minnesota Chamber Orchestra will be joined by the Albert Lea Community Chorus and First Lutheran chamber choir for the Christmas-themed concert. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $12 at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance at First Lutheran Church, Marshall Street Music and Doyle’s Hallmark.
