Delores Somnis, 78, Conger

Funeral services for Delores M. (Dee) Somnis, of Conger, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Conger. The Rev. Daphne Hamborg will officiate. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Conger Cemetery.

Delores died on Monday evening, Jan. 2, 2012, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. She was 78 years of age.

Dee was born June 13, 1933, in Blue Earth, the daughter of Walter T. and Gleda M. (McBride) Bussinger. She attended Albert Lea High School. On June 13, 1948, she was united in marriage to James M. Somnis.

She made her home in the Conger area for over 63 years and had been employed at Ben Franklin for several years and then the county Assessor’s office as a senior clerk for 21 years. Dee was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Conger and was active in the WELCA, Mothers Club, on the Church Council and taught Sunday School.

Dee loved to knit, crochet and sew. She sewed banners for the church, two wedding dresses, plus many prom gowns. She enjoyed reading, spending time on the computer, crocheting and playing bingo.

Delores is survived by her daughters: Linda Dickey of Joplin, Mo., Coral (Richard) Ringoen of Albert Lea, Kathleen (Jeff) Brower of Plymouth and Theresa (Russell) Boverhuis of Bloomington; daughter-in-law, Brenda Somnis, of Fairmont; grandchildren: Ruby (Monty) Hall, Russell Olson, Nicole Cole, Jeremy and Treavor Ringoen, Timothy Somnis, Matthew Sherman, Anthony, Travis, and Katherine Boverhuis, Heather, James, Crystal, Lottie, Tammy, and Michael Somnis and April Ploshnick; 27 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; son, Daniel; brothers: Lester, Louis, Gerald, Wilbert and Robert Bussinger; sister, Carrie Bussinger; son-in-law, Leon Dickey; and granddaughter, Danielle Somnis at birth.
