Galya (Gay) A. Lien, 85, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. David E. Jordon officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St., Lake Mills, IA 50450, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Galya A. Lien was born on Nov. 17, 1926, in Lake Mills, Iowa, to Lloyd and Cleo (Simon) Walkner. She passed away after a brief stay in the Lake Mills Care Center on Jan. 6, 2012.

Galya was baptized and confirmed at the Asbury Methodist Church in Lake Mills and attended school in Lake Mills.

On Sept. 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Orvil Lien in Albert Lea, she then transferred to Salem Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, was in Alter Guild, and circle. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She worked for T&W for 38 years and thought she had wrapped presents for everyone in Lake Mills before retiring.

She enjoyed bowling, darts, playing cards and camping with her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were very important to her and GG’s Christmas’s will always be remembered and cherished by them.

She is survived by her son, Milo, and Louise Lien of Albert Lea; daughter, Linda, and Bob Lair of Lake Mills; daughter-in-law, Mardene Lien, of Joice, Iowa; sister, Ardella, and Hans Olson of Albert Lea. She also is survived by 10 grandchildren; GG’s 21 great-grandchildren; Deb Nordskog of Leland; and by several sisters and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orvil; sons: Dennis and Rick; daughter, Mary; granddaughter, Jamie; parents; two sisters; three brothers; and several sisters- and brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
