Where is the Wisconsin Special?

One of Albert Lea’s most famous residents was Sig Haugdahl, the famous auto racer. In an article in the Tribune a few years ago, it was mentioned that his landspeed car, the “Wisconsin Special,” had been sold at auction, but no mention was made of the new owner. Can any of the Tribune’s readers advise on the current location of this car?

Editor’s note: The Tribune printed the referenced story on Dec. 29, 2002. The auction was in Hershey, Pa., on Oct. 11, 2002, for merely $112,000, a real bargain. The writer, Ed Shannon, said the buyer remained anonymous, a common occurrence at high-level auctions.
