The memorial service for Rodger C. Sorenson of Albert Lea, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Joel Vano will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday Feb. 6, 2012, at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Crossroads Community Hospice or the charity of your choice.

Rodger died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at his home. He was 80 years old.

Rodger was born Aug. 9, 1931, in Albert Lea, to Harvey and Stella (Hanson) Sorenson. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1949. Rodger married Vivian Bolinger on Jan. 15, 1956, in Albert Lea. They were a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Rodger began working for Wilson & Co. and ended a 43-year career with Farmstead Foods. He also worked for the American Legion for 23 years and the Albert Lea hospital for 15 years. Rodger was a veteran of the United States Navy. Rodger belonged to the American Legion and Elk’s.

Rodger enjoyed camping, drawing, playing cards and going to the cabin. He especially enjoyed going on family vacations, spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s athletic activities.

Rodger is survived by his wife Vivian Sorenson of Albert Lea; two sons: Steve Sorenson of Dodge Center, and Dan Sorenson and his wife, Sandi, of Albert Lea; daughter: Tami Weitzel and her husband Kevin of Albert Lea; daughter-in-law: Julie Sorenson of Albert Lea; 10 grandchildren: Tia and Derek Sorenson, Erin and Derek Rounds, Breann and Katie Sorenson, Allyssa, Cole and Lauren Sorenson, Dane and Jaclyn Weitzel; three great grandsons: Max Malouff, Damien Estes and Christian Cords; brother: Don Sorenson and his wife Mary; sister-in-law: Geri Sorenson; brother-in-law: Harold Bolinger and his wife Doris; sister-in-Law: Barbara Bolinger; sister-in-law: Dorothy Gonzalez and her husband John; sister-in-law: Nancy Bottelson and her husband Jim; sister-in-law: Cindy Fenton and her husband Jerry; and many nieces and nephews.

Rodger is preceded in death by his parents: Harvey and Stella Sorenson; son: Scott Sorenson; mother and father-in-law: Earl and Lily Bolinger; brother: Dwayne Sorenson; sister: Kathleen Madson and her husband Ed; sister-in-law: Frances Rupp; sister-in-law: Ferne Hausman; brother-in-law: Bud Bolinger and several nieces and nephews.
