Sczublewski receives call to Hall

Longtime Albert Lea baseball coach Joe Sczublewski is bound for the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Tink Larson, chairman of the Hall of Fame selection committee, announced on Monday that Sczublewski will be one of eight coaches inducted on Oct. 27 at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Minneapolis.

Sczublewski is set to begin his 23rd season as the Tigers baseball team’s head coach this spring and 34th overall.

“I’ve coached quite a long time, and we’ve had some good seasons over the years,” said Sczublewski, who coached at Sauk Center before arriving in Albert Lea in 1990. “It’s a good award to have.”

Other members of the 2012 class of inductees will include Jerry Coe, of Coon Rapids, Dick Jonckowski, of Shakopee, Ricky Michel, of Stillwater, Don Sauter, of Sibley East, Chuck Tabor, of Robbinsdale Cooper, Bob Wasko, of South St. Paul, and Dave Wendland, of Brownton.
