A man whose last known residence was in Albert Lea is expected to be charged this week in Indiana with promoting prostitution — aka pimping.

Jeramy Caron, 35, faces two counts of the charge and is expected to appear in court for his first hearing on Friday in Hamilton County, Ind.

Maj. Aaron Dietz of the Carmel Police Department in Hamilton County said Caron was arrested during a prostitution sting at a local hotel March 21, along with Victoria Ithathirath, 24, of Burnsville. Ithathirath was charged with one count of prostitution, a misdemeanor.

There were two other women from Ohio also with them who have not been arrested.

Dietz said the group had arrived earlier in the week. The Indianapolis Police Department found out about their arrival through the Internet, where they were allegedly advertising their business and soliciting clients.

“The difference between this and some of the other cases we see in prostitution is generally you don’t see the pimp, if you will, at the site that the activity is going on,” Dietz said. “He was on site directing traffic.

“We were very satisfied we were actually able to get him.”

The Indianapolis department worked with the Hamilton/Boone County Drug Task Force to conduct the sting.

Dietz said since Caron was arrested last week he has found out this isn’t the first time the man has been accused of promoting prostitution.

In South Dakota he is accused of an even larger ring, allegedly bringing women from several states to work as prostitutes in hotels in Rapid City, S.D., according to the Rapid City Journal.

The newspaper states a grand jury indicted Caron in January 2011 on 12 counts of promoting prostitution and 12 counts of pimping.

He was reportedly scheduled to go to trial in February, but the trial was postponed after Caron’s attorney complained about the prosecution’s untimely production of evidence, according to the newspaper.

The Journal noted the prosecutor in that case accused Caron of being “the mastermind for a multi-state Internet prostitution ring” and sought a $10 million bond.

He was ultimately released in the South Dakota case on a $25,000 bond.

The newspaper stated Caron was a Summerset, S.D., resident but described Albert Lea as his hometown. It stated his bond conditions from the South Dakota case permitted him to travel to Minnesota — where he has family in his hometown of Albert Lea — but no further.

Dietz, however, said according to his knowledge, Caron’s last known address was in Albert Lea.

Caron posted a $10,000 bond last week in Indiana after he was arrested and was released from the Hamilton County Jail.

Dietz said each count of promoting prostitution in Indiana carries a penalty of two to eight years in prison.
