Heritage Day to be held in St. Ansgar, Iowa

The 5th Annual Veteran Heritage Day at the American Legion in St. Ansgar, Iowa, will be April 28. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. It is free and open to the public. Spouses and children are welcome. The CLM Polka Band will play. A lunch will be served by Paradise Pizza. Bring your photos and memorabilia to share with others. There will be World War II and Korean War informal discussion groups. Meet WWII Women’s Air Service Pilot Liz Strofus of Faribault and TSgt(R) Ruth Perry of Albert Lea an Air Force veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. The Vietnam War US Navy Mobile Riverine Force and U.S. Army 9th Infantry Division Traveling Museum of Decorah, Iowa, will be parked in front of the Legion for you to view. U.S. Navy Vietnam vets, BM3(R) Charles Ardinger and Bruce Graff, will answer your questions.

Minnesota American Legion Newspaper editor Al Zdon, also a US Navy and Vietnam War vet, will have a slide presentation on some of Minnesota’s famous war heroes. Zdon will sell and autograph copies of his recent book: “War Stories Volume ll” proceeds going to the American Legion. Zdon has a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Minnesota. He edited the Hibbing Daily Tribune for 18 years and for the past 16 years has been the editor of the Minnesota Legionnaire. Zdon has authored five books.
