Incumbent 5th Ward Councilor Larry Anderson filed for re-election Friday morning at City Hall.

Anderson, 56, was elected to the Albert Lea City Council in 2008.

He said he enjoys being on the council and was encouraged by several other people to seek a second term.

“I enjoy doing things to help our community,” Anderson said. “I think we have a great community.”

He said he likes the feeling of having people trust him enough to call him and share their concerns. While he knows not everyone may be happy with every decision he makes, he votes to represent the majority of residents.

Looking forward to the next few years, Anderson said he thinks the biggest issues for his ward will be maintaining infrastructure and keeping the quality of life high, without adding more stress on the tax base than necessary.

“We have to keep in mind what the tax base is and how much people earn,” Anderson said. “We have to know when to say, ‘No we can’t do that,’ or ‘It might have to wait a few years.’”

An information technology specialist for the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Anderson and his wife, Lynne, have two children and two grandchildren.

He filed on what was the fourth day of the filing period for public office.

Filing continues through June 5.

Thus far, Anderson is the only person who has filed for the 5th Ward seat.
