Nice to Know

This is a note of thanks to the volunteers who contributed to the annual lake cleanup event on May 5. The weather wasn’t as nice as we had hoped, but we still had 16 to 20 committed volunteers who braved the mist and the mud to make a noticable difference on the lakeshores and waters near Frank Hall Park and the channel between Fountain and Albert Lea lakes.

Thank you to area businesses and organizations that contributed to the success of the event: EcoWater, Waste Management, Church Offset Printing, Fountain Lake Sportsmen’s Club, Albert Lea Tribune, KATE Radio, KIMT News, City of Albert Lea, Albert Lae-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce, Community Education, Albert Lea Park and Recreation and Freeborn County Environmental Services.

This year we pulled out a water heater, tires, 150 pounds of scrap metal, car parts, cans, bottles, bags, clothing, shoes, fishing tackle, wrappers and trash. A friendly reminder goes out to area citizens to keep the lakes and lakeshores clean. Stay tuned for future lake cleanup opportunities.
