ST. CLOUD — U.S. Rep. Ron Paul got a very warm welcome at Minnesota’s Republican Convention even though he’s not the party’s presumed presidential nominee.

The Texas congressman is no longer actively campaigning for the nomination but is planning to make a last stand at the party’s national convention in August. He didn’t talk about his campaign in his brief convention speech, but shared his message of limited government, personal liberty and a less aggressive U.S. foreign policy.

Minnesota’s state convention has a disproportionately large number of Paul supporters among the delegates, and he got some of the biggest cheers of the day.

Paul also supported state Rep. Kurt Bills’ bid for the party’s U.S. Senate endorsement, which was successful.

Four years ago, Paul was barred from speaking at Minnesota’s Republican Convention.
