Weekend Planner: Jim Anthony returns to Albert Lea

The Lighthouse Event Center will host artist Jim Anthony at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Anthony is originally from Albert Lea and will be returning to perform a country music show.

“He’s a great country singer/songwriter with his own band,” owner Celeste Krause said.

Tickets are $10 in advance from Marshall Street Music, Hy-Vee or Stadheim Jewelers in Albert Lea or Coffee House on Main in Austin. Tickets are $15 at the door.

Friday

• The Freeborn County Historical Museum will honor International Museum Day by offering reduced admission of $2 for adults. Children and students will be admitted free. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Church Women United will host a scholarship salad luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. Cost is $6 per person, and proceeds go to scholarships for students in Freeborn County.

• Good Samaritan Society hosts the Diamond and Denim food and wine tasting at 6 p.m. at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. Tickets are $20 and are available at Sterling Drug, Cheers Liquor, Good Samaritan Society and at the door.

 

Saturday

• The Family Bike & Safety Rodeo will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at Southwest Middle School in Albert Lea. The free event is for children and adults to learn more about bike safety, rules of the road and bike handling skills. Free bike helmets, helmet fittings and bike inspections will be available.

• Join the Southern Minnesota Parkinson’s Support Group for a walk to fundraise for research, education and more related to Parkinson’s disease. The walk will be from 9 a.m. to noon at Northbridge Mall. There will be prizes, a silent auction and more. Call 373-1808 for more information.

• The Albert Lea Community Band will host a concert starting at 1 p.m. at the Edgewater Park Bandshell.

• Albert Lea’s American Legion hosts an Armed Forces Open House from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come for uniform displays, brat tasting, a silent auction and other specials.

 

Sunday

• Alden-Conger’s youth football will sponsor a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at Alden-Conger School. Donations will be accepted, and menu includes pancakes, French toast, egg bake, sausage, milk, coffee and juice.

• The Masonic Lodge will host an Amaranth pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee. Students from the high school’s music department will be waiting tables.

• Albert Lea’s Land Between the Lakes Triathlon will start at 9 a.m. at Edgewater Park. The triathlon consists of a quarter-mile swim, 14-mile bike ride and four-mile run.
