You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with these or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

St. John’s Lutheran Home, Thorne Crest Retirement Community, Good Samaritan Society, Oak Park Place: Can you assist with a wheel chair? Help residents in wheel chairs moving from their rooms to the chapel for services. Or be there on various weekdays to help residents get into activities. The joy you share will come back to you many times over.

RSVP first aid kits: Just ask at Raleigh’s Ace Hardware, 2525 Bridge Ave., Albert Lea, for the RSVP just-right size first aid kits equipped for your outdoor person, traveler or home emergencies. The modest $10 purchase price also makes a donation to RSVP for Freeborn County. Remember, spring brings graduations, confirmations and gifting showers of all kinds and you are helping RSVP at the same time.

Ecumenical Food Pantry: With an extra three hours a month, you can help children, senior citizens and parents have nourishing foods to last for the month. You become a team member with the two to three other volunteers there who are keeping the doors open so families are helped. Please call Stumme at Senior Resources 377-7433 for additional times and schedules.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
