Ascension Lutheran Church Women

The Ascension Lutheran Church Women of ELCA held their monthly meeting on June 10 at 9:30 a.m.

Co-President Doris Guenthner called the meeting to order and led devotions.

The secretary’s report was given by Lorraine Schaper and was approved as printed in the newsletter.

No treasurer’s report due to the absence of the treasurer.

Thank you notes were read, including one from Rika Boorsma for the confirmation book and another from Cherrie and Danrin Schiltz. A thank you note was received from the Blue Earth River Conference for hosting the Spring Event in April at Ascension, and a note was received from Marjorie Beiser.

Guenthner thanked the Naomi Circle for doing the Good Samaritan Society bingo.

Good Samaritan requested consideration for a musical program. Gayle Olson volunteered to contact the activity director at Good Samaritan as to a date and time.

Guenthner thanked all who worked to make the “Ascension Gems” luncheon such a success on May 16.

Also special thanks were given to the Esther Circle for serving the graduation brunch on May 20 between services. Twelve graduates were honored and each were presented with a quilt made by the Quilting Ladies of Ascension.

For new business the upcoming event of Guest Night was discussed. A motion was made and seconded that the group book the Rhubard Sisters from Lanesboro as the entertainment for the night.

Guest Night will be on Aug. 14 beginning at 6 p.m. with a salad supper. Committee in charge is Cheryl Venem, Caroline Sorenson and Rosalyn Fossum.

The secretary was instructed to send out invitations for Guest Night.

Ella Nelson and Margaret Ausen will be in charge of the welcome table and name tags for Guest Night.

An invitation was read from Cross of Glory of Hartland for their Guest Night at 6 p.m. June 28. The program is the Retired Area Choir Directors called the Three CDs. Will meet at Ascension to car pool and leave promptly at 5:30 p.m.

Retreat Day at Good Earth is on June 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You may register online.

The Good Earth Quilt Auction will be Aug. 18 at Our Savior’s Spring Valley

Southeastern Minnesota Synod women’s retreats are Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Aug. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Buses from different parts of the synod are being negotiated according to interest shown. You can also go by car load or the bus. Cost for the day $10. Riding a bus will be $10.

The day includes meeting Bishop Usgaard and the synod staff and seeing the synod office space. There will be lunch, and people can attend a session about human trafficking.

Anyone at Ascension interested in attending, can contact Caroline Sorenson or Guenthner. The NQC monthly meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. on July 8.
