Donald Freeman, 69, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Donald Howard Freeman of Albert Lea will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Alan Stoa will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, as well as one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville. Military honors accorded by Albert Lea veterans groups.

Donald Freeman passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012, at St Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was 69 years old.

Donald was born on Feb. 1, 1943, in Albert Lea. The son of Howard and Lilas (Hagen) Freeman, he graduated from high school before attending Albert Lea Vo Tech. On July 9, 1966, he was united in marriage to Vivian Williamson in Las Vegas. Together they had two children.

A Freeborn County resident all of his life, Donald worked for Consolidated Foods, Wilson & Co., Scotsman Ice Products and Alliant Energy as a draftsman before retiring in 2007. He was a member of the Legion and the Eagles Club. Donald served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

Donald enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, golf, bowling league and casino trips. He loved spending time with his grandkids and enjoyed the company of his pet dog, Cuddles.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and sister, Marlene Heckmer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vivian Freeman of Albert Lea; son, Kevin (Melanie) Freeman of Albert Lea; daughter, Nicole (Dan) Mayer of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Corissa Freeman, Ashley Schwarzenbach and Jordan Mayer; brothers: David (Carolyn) Freeman of Las Vegas and Allan (Cheryl) Freeman of Albert Lea; sister, Patricia (Timothy) Donahue of Albert Lea; nieces and nephews; and other loving friends.
