Editorial: School is out; watch for children

Now that classes are over and school is out, we urge motorists to watch for children at all times of the day and evening.

Drive with care, especially around parks, pools and school playgrounds. Be on the lookout for children on bicycles, and remember that kids sometimes haven’t been taught proper riding. Be a patient driver.

Summer is a time of discovery and play for many kids, and that is good for them. For the older ones, it can be a time of work, too. All adults, whether driving or just walking, need to keep an eye on children — whether they are teen or pre-teen — to make sure they are behaving well and not causing trouble. The ones you see might not be yours, but if they were, you would appreciate a responsible adult to keep them in check or to rescue them from danger.

We want to enjoy a great summer, and we hope that all families will assist their neighbors in making it great.
