Food banks enter summer months

Published 6:58 am Sunday, June 10, 2012

Every year when school ends and summer vacation begins thousands of families in the surrounding area wonder how they will be able to provide enough food for their children because they no longer have access to school meal programs. Hunger does not take a summer vacation!

Approximately 200,000 Minnesota children are at risk of hunger during summer because they do not have access to meals at school. Our local food shelves face a steep uptick during the summer months. Summer is also the time when donations to our food shelves decrease. Please help by making a donation to your local food shelf today. Any size donation to your local food shelf is vital to helping fill the summer hunger gap!

Channel One Food Bank is our region’s food bank, providing millions of pounds of food yearly to area food shelves to help feed our friends and neighbors in need. The summer demand on Channel One is proportionally large. You can help Channel One help the hundreds of food relief agencies throughout our region feed the hungry by making a donation to Channel One Food Bank. A contribution to Channel One Food Bank will impact the hunger problem regionally and strengthen our ability to help your local food shelf. For information on how your company, organization or you individually can join the Channel One Food Bank mission and fight hunger regionally visit the Channel One website at www.helpingfeedpeople.org.
