ROCHESTER — Thousands of Minnesota Democratic activists were gathered in Rochester for a relatively quiet state party convention.

Saturday’s main business was to endorse U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar for a second term and to elect delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., this September.

Klobuchar faces a challenge from Republican state Rep. Kurt Bills.

The Democratic faithful also heard speeches from elected officials including U.S. Reps. Tim Walz, Betty McCollum and Keith Ellison.

Gov. Mark Dayton is expected to address the convention as his party seeks to overturn Republican legislative majorities for the second half of his term.
